With our anniversary sunday and my sil’s baby shower I completely forgot to post this weeks sketch. I have to admith that I have been posting old sketches I did awhile ago. I just haven’t had the time to create any new ones. Luckily I have quite a stockpile.
On a kind of funny note, I went in the kitchen to get a drink and this is where I found Tyler. He is actually fast asleep. He has a approximately 3 night a week sleep walking habit. Inver know where I;m going to find him.
Thank goodness for scrap challenges or else I’d never get any scrapping done. This one was for Catherine’s monday challenge at Playground of Memories. Here’s the challenge in the challenge queen’s own words.
“The challenge this week is kind of interesting. It’s also an opportunity for you to use some scraps. I want you to create a layout using patterned paper as a background. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, that patterned paper has to be cut into strips….and the largest strip can only be 1 1/2″ wide. Yep, you read that right. “
This layout came together really quickly. I created the title a few days ago in ps (see previous post). With the addition of the paper I had on my desk cut into strips and an overlay it came together like scrambled eggs and catsup.
Check this icy title out. I can’t take credit for it though. Found a tutorial in Photoshop User magazine. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble on a whim…..what a great publication! Lots of info and great tutorials. I may have to get a subscription.
One thing I’m learning about photoshop, you can do just about anything by combining layers and adjusting transparencies. Alot of it is just trial and error and a little bit of knowledge. Thank God there are smart people out there willing to share their findings

Today madison discovered you tube. One of her friends told her about it. I told her she had to be supervised whenever she used it. She’s now happily engrossed in horrible quality Pokemon videos. It’s like her eyes have been opened to a whole new world!
Today we finished our eraser drawn horse skull and candlestick combo. Last week I was almost in tears over this one. Absolutely convinced that I lacked the skills necessary to complete the project. this week I learned that perseverence pays off. This is what the drawing looked like last week
This is the completed piece. Although I made the mistake of telling the professor it was done. Of course, he found lots of ways of improving my “completed” drawing. Next time I’ll just keep my mouth shut.

“I don’t mean to be smart. it just happens. It’s not my fault”. Emily is one of my fellow students in Drawing I class. This was in response to a nerd vs. geek discussion we were having before class.
Today I realized that ever since I started school I’ve pretty much stopped taking pics. Taking pictures is kind of my thing so I really need to get back into documenting the things I love visually. Part of it is getting used to uploading them on the mac. I’m working on it. Here’s a couple I took today.
Here’s my Graphics Design Essentials prof that I have a big ole old lady crush on. Doesn’t he epitomize scruffy surfer boy? the fact that he’s a pretty good teacher doesn’t help matters.
Tyler started Boy Scouts this week. Neil has been in charge of getting things all set up and taking him to his meeting. Kind of bummed that I’m missing out on it but I just don’t have the time or energy. Neil took him to get his fancy Schmancy new uniform.

In the interest of full disclosure I am going to post this weeks homework for art class. Some of you may remember me bemoaning the technique where we black out a white sheet of paper and “erase” the pic into it? Well, we had to practice it for homework. My subject was a kind of cool chest we have in our living room. I wasn’t really concerned about getting the shape right so much as learning the technique. I really like how the wall and floor came out.
Finally, here’s a pic of my first graphic design essentials project. We had to make a bunch of ps changes to the original photo. It’s kind of like one of those kids activities where you have to point out the differences between two pics. Can you find mine?
